Friends or Foes: Liberty and Development in the 21st Century
Monday 20 January 17:00-20:00
FT House, Dinning Room Hotel Meierhof
With the inauguration of Donald J. Trump as the 47th President hours away, the world is entering into a more uncertain era. This sense of unpredictability is underpinned by a growing discrepancy at different levels: in terms of politics and economics, between freedom and development; in terms of technology between humans and machines; environmentally between growth and finite resources; and epistemologically between truth and “alternative truths”.
The discussion will identify the root causes of these discrepancies in different areas of human activity while examining how they will affect the world in the medium and the long-term.

Yet, the actions of public, corporate leaders and government officials are weak and fragmented. In prelude to COP26, this session aims to bring representatives of corporations, foundations and government together to discuss:
- What is the role and motivation of the private sector/ corporation towards reinforcing climate action? How can society move beyond the ‘green washing’ to the action that makes a real impact?

Enlightened Leadership: Creating Connections that Heal From the Micro to The Macro
Thursday 23 January, 15:00-16:00
FT HOUSE, Hotel Meierhof, Conference room
As the world faces an escalating mental health crisis and persistent global conflicts, every aspect of society is transformed by unprecedented technological transformation. This session explores how enlightened leadership can integrate innovative approaches to well-being and conflict resolution in this context.
Besides the increase in labor productivity, digital innovation and AI are having a profoundly disruptive impact on mental wellness, personal and societal growth.
By addressing root causes of trauma, stress, disconnection, and stagnation, leaders can foster emotional healing, resilience, sustainable peace, and prosperity.
From the introduction of alternative modalities like MDMA-assisted psychotherapy to the application of neuroscience and conscious dialogue in peacebuilding, this discussion seeks to redefine how societies, institutions, and technological platforms can approach collective healing, conflict resolution, and the relationship between humans and technology that leads to authentic growth.
For we are all interconnected—with each other, with our instruments, and with nature.

MANIFESTO
The Free Thinker Society
20-24 January 2025 in Davos, Switzerland
at the sidelines of the
World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2025
Context
Founded in Davos in January 2024, the Free Thinker Society brings together thinkers and doers from diverse backgrounds to revive the culture of free, independent, and courageous thought that is increasingly rare in today’s world. Drawing inspiration from the Renaissance Academies and the Salons of the Enlightenment, the Society provides an informal setting for rich, unscripted conversations, held alongside the World Economic Forum. This space offers a refreshing complement to the more formal discussions taking place inside the Congress Centre.
The Free Thinker Society is grounded in the belief that societal progress and transformation stem from the powerful intersection of connection, communication, and community. By challenging conventional boundaries and connecting diverse perspectives, the Society fosters the cross-pollination of ideas across disciplines, unlocking new possibilities for innovation and progress.
